Lawyer deplores police failure to invite Abraham to reenactment

Abraham Samad’s lawyer, Abdul Azis, has criticized the South Sulawesi Police for failing to invite his client to attend a reenactment of an ID forgery case allegedly involving the non-active Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) chairman.

Azis said he did not know on why the police’s investigative team did not summon Abraham to attend the reenactment despite his client being cooperative and always meeting police summons for questioning.

The lawyer said he very much regretted the police’s decision to keep carry out the reenactment despite the absence of both Abraham and another suspect in the ID forgery case, namely a woman identified as Feriyani Lim. Moreover, he said, the reenactment was a part of fact discovery efforts.

“We are worried that the reenactment’s results will contradict the police interrogation report and lead to an abuse of power because our client was not present for the process. The fact revealing process can be vague,” said Azis, who is also the Makassar Legal Aid Institute (LBH Makassar) chairman.

The South Sulawesi Police on Sunday held the reenactment to complete evidence for the case’s dossiers that the South Sulawesi Prosecutor’s Office previously returned to the investigative team because of a lack of clarity. (ebf)
